Moving to a new city and getting to explore it with my camera has been one of the most exciting parts of starting fresh in Calgary. Discovering beautiful photo locations while photographing people in love feels like the best way to get to know a place. This session took me to two iconic Calgary photoshoot spots – Prince’s Island Park and Platform Parkade – and they did not disappoint.

If you’re searching for the best photo locations in Calgary, these two are definitely worth adding to your list.

Prince’s Island Park – A Dreamy Natural Backdrop in Downtown Calgary

Prince’s Island Park is one of the most popular outdoor photoshoot locations in Calgary, and it’s easy to see why. The park offers an incredible variety of backdrops all within a short walking distance of each other – making it ideal for engagement sessions, couples photos, and portraits.

Within just a few minutes of exploring, you’ll find:

  • Tree-lined pathways perfect for candid walking shots

  • Open grassy areas with soft, natural light

  • Quiet park benches for cozy posed moments

  • Beautiful views of the Bow River winding through the city

The riverfront, especially during golden hour in Calgary, creates such a romantic and timeless setting for photos. Even though there was some construction happening along the water the day of this shoot, the location still delivered gorgeous images. That’s one of my favorite things about Prince’s Island Park – no matter the season or circumstances, it always photographs beautifully.

What really impressed me was how many different looks and vibes we were able to capture within a 300-metre radius. For clients who want lots of variety without too much walking, this location is a huge win.

If you’re Googling things like:

  • “Where to take engagement photos in Calgary”

  • “Best parks for photos in Calgary”

  • “Calgary outdoor photoshoot locations”

…Prince’s Island Park should be at the very top of your list.

Platform Parkade – The Best Skyline View for Photos in Calgary

After an outfit change and a quick drive, we headed to our second Calgary photo location: Platform Parkade. This is hands-down one of my favorite urban photoshoot spots in the city.

Platform Parkade offers one of the clearest and most stunning views of the downtown Calgary skyline, with the Calgary Tower perfectly framed in the background. If you’re looking for that modern, city-vibe aesthetic, this is the place to be.

A couple shares a tender moment against the stunning skyline of Calgary, capturing the essence of their romance.

To access the spot, you simply drive up to the top level of the parkade and take the elevator to the 7th floor. A quick tip: the rooftop is occasionally booked for private shoots or events, so it’s always a good idea to check for posted signs before planning your session. I recommend visiting on a weekday evening to avoid crowds and increase your chances of having the space to yourself.

We arrived just in time for sunset, and the warm light bouncing off the buildings created the perfect glowy, editorial feel. For couples wanting a mix of romantic and urban photos in Calgary, pairing Platform Parkade with a natural location like Prince’s Island Park is such a great combination.

If you’ve been searching online for:

  • “Calgary skyline photoshoot location”

  • “Best rooftop photos in Calgary”

  • “Platform Parkade photos Calgary”

…this location is exactly what you’re looking for.
